The Underground Railroad and its connection to the Ohio Valley
The Underground Railroad Museum is located in Flushing, Ohio. The museum features an extensive collection of publications, books, memorabilia and other articles. The exhibits portray what is known about slavery and the Underground Railroad in Ohio and features an understanding of the culture in the 1800's.

Feb. 2, 2008 (10:00 am) - John will be presenting a program at Independence Hall, Wheeling, VV for Black History Month.
Feb. 12, 2008 (10:00 am) - John Mattox will be the featured guest speaker at Jefferson Community College, Steubenville, OH. The topic will be the Underground Railroad and it's connection to the Ohio Valley.
Feb. 27, 2008 (6:30 pm) - Belmont Technical College will be hosting their Second Annual Intercultural program entitled "Cultural Pearls". John Mattox, founder and curator of the Underground Railroad Museum of Flushing, Ohio will be a featured guest speaker. Other guest speakers include Dr. Richard Greenlee, Interim Dean of Ohio University Eastern.
Jun. 21, 2008 (10:00 am) - John Mattox will be the guest speaker at Independence Hall, Wheeling, WV. This program will be presented in celebration of "Juneteenth Day".

Mattox Honored for Tourism Efforts
(Thursday, 03/24/2005, Times Leader) - The Belmont County Tourism Council recognized John Mattox, curator of the Underground Railroad Museum in Flushing, as the 2004 Tourism Person of the Year.
